The town of Torrington (proper title: Great Torrington) is in what is termed ‘Tarka Country’, a novelist called Henry Williamson wrote a famous novel called ‘Tarka the Otter’ about the landscape and habitat of the 2 rivers in this part of North Devon – it was first published in 1927 and has been in print ever since! There is also a picturesque railway line nearby in the North Devon area called the ‘Tarka Line’
