ARAKU
NESTLED IN THE EASTERN GHATS of India is a world undiscovered and unspoiled, that lies isolated from mainstream civilization. This piece of earth is home to generations of indigenous communities who continue to preserve their values and tradition of sharing and caring. The navel of the region is a small strip of valley called Araku.

NAANDI FOUNDATION
More than a decade ago, serendipity and providence brought Naandi Foundation, a the largest social enterprise in India into this region. Almost organically, Naandi got into natural resource management techniques to convert semi–wastelands into organic coffee plantations. Today, Naandi is also involved with educating 12,000 girls in the region through Nanhikali programme.

SAMTFMACS, small farmer cooperative society
The farmers themselves got together to form a collective. Today, this collective of 10,000 small farmers have commenced the arduous task of regaining the lost ecology and creating livelihoods. They combine their hard work with global expertise to grow the finest coffee. And not just coffee, but pepper, mango and guava.

COFFEE
Coffee in this region is selectively hand-picked, and grown under shade by the farmers. This distinctive product combines top quality Arabica flavour with a commitment to environmental sustainability, and socio-economic empowerment. This organic and child labour free coffee represents a new way of production and consumption.

GEMS of ARAKU
The fact that Araku coffee is exposed to the world's most renowned coffee aficionados by creating the Gems of Araku competition adapted from the Cup of Excellence and Specialty Coffee Association of America's cupping protocols is a testimony to the growing confidence and maturity of Araku coffee.

For the last 5 years, we have taken advantage of the big stage of Gems of Araku to support Araku youth by organising a volleyball tournament. This year, we have received participation from 400 teams in 200 villages over 7 mandals.

For the first time, we would like to share with you the excitement and energy of Araku youth that mirrors the true spirit of Araku. We have arranged for the volleyball finals to be played at the venue on the final day of Gems of Araku.
