Far on the top of Rante Karuna Mountain in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, is the perfect soil for
planting coffee. Before World War II, the Dutch sailed across the ocean, made it through the
jungle climbed the mountains, to look for fertile land. They found it and announced it as
"Paradise". In the course of time they withdrew from the area and the plantation sank into
oblivion.
In 1986, the plantation returned to mind and the search began. As a result of uncontrolled
growth the plantation was not easy to find and the reconstruction took a long time and efforts.
Today the Sulotco plantation has a size of 3.300 hectares. Only 1.600 hectares are planted
with coffee trees. The rest is used for social purposes. They built a school, a hospital and
apartments.
During June and August only the ripe cherries are handpicked, machine cleaned and dried by
the sun. The main crop is in June.
Sulotco plantation Coffee has been exported since five years only but the waiting was
worthwhile because due to a good acidity and body the coffee has a harmonic taste.
Some people say it reminds a little bit of walnut.
